Arash Azizi is a writer and historian. He is a contributing writer at the Atlantic and his writings and commentary on politics, history and cinema have appeared in numerous other outlets including New York Times, New York Review of Books, Washington Post, Newsweek, the BBC, Newlines, Haaretz, Daily Beast, Jacobin and the Toronto Star. He is the author of “The Shadow Commander: Soleimani, the US and Iran’s Global Ambitions” (Oneworld, 2020) and “What Iranians Want: Women, Life, Freedom” (Oneworld, 2024.)

He holds a PhD in history and Middle Eastern studies from NYU. His dissertation was about the communist movement in the Middle East during the global Cold War. He is a senior lecturer in political science and history departments at Clemson University. He is a fellow at the Center for Middle East and Global Order (CMEG).

He used to co-host a popular news shows for Iranian audiences and his broadcasting and radio and television appearances have been aired from BBC World, i24, Iran International, DW, CTV, CBC, TRT World and CGTN.

About a dozen of his book-length translations have appeared in Iran and abroad.

Arash’s work has been translated to 18 languages including Spanish, Arabic, Kurdish, Russian, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Urdu, Bengali, Turkish, Greek, Japanese, Malagasy, Azerbaijani, Dutch, Indonesian and Chinese.

He has also written and produced movies which can be found on his IMDB profile. “Into Schrodinger’s Box,” a film he co-wrote and co-produced, is available to watch on Fandor via Amazon. He has served on film festival juries in Spain, Portugal, UK and the United States.

آرش عزیزی نویسنده، مترجم و مدرس ارشدِ تاریخ و علوم سیاسی در دانشگاه کلمسون در آمریکا است. او از دانشگاه نیویورک، دکترای تاریخ و مطالعات خاورمیانه دارد. اولین کتاب او به انگلیسی «فرمانده در سایه» نام دارد و روایتی است از زندگی قاسم سلیمانی. دومین کتاب او به انگلیسی با عنوان «ایرانیان چه می‌خواهند: زن، زندگی، آزادی» در سال ۲۰۲۴ منتشر می‌شود. پژوهش‌های دانشگاهی او در مورد تاریخ جنبش‌های انقلابی چپ و اسلام‌گرا در ایران و جهان عرب در دهه‌‌های ۶۰و ۷۰ میلادی و نقش‌شان در جنگ سرد جهانی است. بیش از ده کتاب از ترجمه‌های او به فارسی منتشر شده‌اند. نوشته‌های او در مورد سیاست و تاریخ و سینما در نشریات متعددی منتشر شده‌اند.

نوشته‌های آرش به ۱۸ زبان ترجمه شده‌اند از جمله اسپانیایی، عربی، کردی، روسی، فرانسوی، آلمانی، ایتالیایی، پرتغالی، اردو، بنگالی، ترکی، یونانی، ژاپنی، مالاگاسی، آذربایجانی، هلندی، اندونزیایی و چینی.
